Our emotions play an important role in how we handle stressful circumstances. Emotional health has become very important as we navigate our changing world. If we get to a point where our emotions are constantly fluctuating and impacting daily life, there are some things we can do. There is a fight or flight response we all have when we encounter something dangerous but if the fight and flight response occurs every day, then it’s time to get some help.
So, when we think of sensory play, we think about our 5 senses, taste, touch, sight, smell and sound. Sensory Play plays a very important role in childhood development. There are some children, mine included, who have a diagnosis of Sensory Processing Disorder or Sensory Integration Disorder. These children have a hard time processing all of the input their senses are giving them and in turn can have meltdowns, difficulty with balance, low muscle tone, difficulty climbing as well as many other symptoms.
